BRHS Festival Singers Visit the Netherlands and Belgium

The Baton Rouge High School Festival Singers, a part of the Choral Studies program led by Robbie Giroir, recently toured in the Netherlands and Belgium. They visited and preformed in several different towns on their tour, learning about the culture along the way by visiting various museums and historic sites. Sophomore Shelby Aydell shared with us some of her experience. (photos also provided by Shelby Aydell)

“We spent our first two days in Amsterdam, where we were able to visit the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, and the National Museum. Then we toured the Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem, and went on to Ommen, a small tourist town, where we sang  with a local men’s chorus. After a night in Ommen, we traveled to Antwerp, Belgium, where we sang in the Church of Our Lady. From there, we went to Brugge and we got to see Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child. The last city we visited was Ghent before returning to Amsterdam to catch our flight home. We sang a concert in every city we went to, in some of the oldest and most beautiful churches and cathedrals in Europe. This choral tour was an incredible experience for everyone who went, and we can’t wait for our trip to Scotland in 2019!”
